If you ever want to invest in an amazing art book, I wholeheartedly recommend The Essential Duane Michals. This is one of my 'must keep' books. I heard once that you should narrow your library down to 100 books. This book would be in my top 15. I collect a great many books and often give many away. The books that make it as keepers are likely lifetime members and are guaranteed years of recognition and care. I try to follow the principal of only keeping that which is useful, essential, beautiful or sentimental. I try to weed out the items in my life that do not fit under these terms. My 'must keep' books will never be on the chopping block. They all have served me well in a time of my life and are like family.
This is a great collection, both poetic and visual. There are nuances and fresh details that appear upon every viewing. Its a book you could spend hours looking through and then again and more. He is magical and manic, creative and political. Wonderful. An original. And his series rock.
