Artist of the Day - Maxfield Parrish

Ok, so I am breaking my own rule and making 2 artists of the day. boo to rules.

My grandmother took me to the PA Academy of Fine Arts to see a Maxfield Parrish exhibit when I was a teenager. I remember there seemed to be hundreds of his paintings and they were huge and technicolor and I just froze up in complete awe of them. I remember my grandmother kept prodding me to see if I was OK, but I felt like I was at the feet of Gods and speaking would be an insult. The art spoke for itself. When we drove home that night it was raining and the slick streets were aglow with the streetlights and neon of the city like never before. I was enthralled. Ecstasy, the painting on the bottom, is one of my favorites. Enjoy!

  1. Maxfield Parrish and Louis Comfort Tiffany collaborated to make a wall-sized mural at the Curtis Center in Philadelphia. The building is a short walk (OK for you, maybe not for Gabe) from the Market East station. It is one of the most beautiful things in Philadelphia- I highly recommend you go!!!
